Making Time

“I didn’t have time”  “I had such a busy day”  “Life is crazy”

How many times have these phrases (or ones like them) been used today? This week? This month?

People in the 21st century have the tendency to pack their schedules full of things to do. There’s always  something else that needs to get done or taken care of. While this type of schedule may suit many people, it also leads to a convenient excuse when some things don’t get done.

The sad and unfortunate part of our busy lives is the part that is usually neglected due to a lack of time. Family and Friends, as well as things that would make our lives better or more fulfilling. Personal hobbies and activities can also be neglected due to busy schedules. How many times do we say “Sorry I didn’t call, things have been so busy”? So busy that we couldn’t make a five minute phone call or spend five minutes bettering our lives?

When it comes to things that need to be a constant priority in our lives, we need to stop trying to “find the time” and instead “make the time”.

Make time to talk to family on the phone. Make time to spend some quality time with your loved ones. Make time to do the one or two things that can really improve your life. Make time to do something for yourself.

The first step is admitting that you can do a better job, then you must hold yourself accountable to making the time to do something. For me, one of those things is blogging more frequently. I am going to make time to work on this blog. It is something that I enjoy and something that improves my life.

A great motivator and author, Stephen Covey, died recently. One of his famous quotes is very appropriate to this post.

“The key is not to prioritize what is on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities.”
