Its All About the Why

Good Morning! Everyone wakes up in the morning, some earlier than others. No matter what time you wake up, the important question is why? Why do you get up in the mornings? What propels you out of bed to start your day? If it is just because that is what you’re supposed to do, then you are going to have a long day. You should wake up every morning with a purpose, a goal, or something to accomplish that day. I know every morning when I get up, I am ready to attack the day and use it to continue to learn, grow, and make myself better.

Much like having a reason to wake up in the morning, it is vital that you know why you do things in your life. Why do you work at the job that you have? Why do you play the sport that you play? Understanding the reasons why we do things helps us to better motivate ourselves to succeed, and it empowers the leaders around you to emphasize your core purpose.

Today is April 2, 2012. It is the only April 2, 2012 there will ever be. Why are you waking up this morning?

Hands down the biggest factor in changing my quality of work (and life) and the WHY concept. It’s easy to just go through life and do the menial tasks that you are required to do, but its much more difficult to do these things with the WHY in mind. Much more difficult but much more rewarding. When I do my work, instead of starting with the objective in mind (like I used to), I now start with why we are trying to accomplish the objective. Since I’ve started thinking this way, my productivity levels have skyrocketed and the satisfaction I get out of my work has multiplied 10fold.
